GATE, claimed as the world's first, true smart mailbox is now funding on Kickstarter.   The system provides instant alerts via text messages, email, or twitter when your mailbox is accessed and can alert you to suspicious activity.  It can be fitted to any standard mailbox having a mailbox door of at least 5.5 inches (140mm) wide. There are two basic modules comprising the system.

The Home Unit controls the Mailbox Unit wirelessly.  It works with either the mailbox unit or the GATE app for your phone and connects to your home network via WiFi sending commands to an IOT server which in turn relays notifications to your mobile device.  The Home Unit can also be configured to use Z-Wave home automation networks and has a built in motion sensor to alert you to human motion.

The Mailbox Sensor Unit communicates to the Home Unit using 915MHz which can be up to 500 feet away (line of site) and up to 2000 feet if you equip your mailbox with the optional antenna.  With the owner's permission, Mailbox Sensors have the ability to discover each other and relay messages.
